What is coaching?

Coaching is a partnership providing the structure, support and focus to assist individuals in identifying, clarifying and achieving their personal and professional goals. The International Coach Federation defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.

Coaches work with clients in all areas including business, career, creativity, finances, health and relationships.

One-on-one coaching sessions can be scheduled at your convenience and from the comfort of your own home or office. They are usually conducted over the phone, but can also be arranged in person.  Group experiences are available in person or over the phone.
What is a personal coach?
Like a sports coach, a personal coach is focused on helping you improve your performance, helping you "win" at something that matters to you. Beyond performance, a personal coach is also focused on helping you deepen your fulfilment and satisfaction with what you do. A coach will support and encourage you to play the game despite the obstacles, and will be there to share your victories. A coach will guide you in designing and building the life you truly desire. A coach is a trained observer and a great listener who is committed to your success.

Unlike a mentor, trainer or therapist, a coach does not presume to have all the answers; they know that the most valuable advice is already within you and needs to be clarified to be acted on.  They help you play to your strengths, not your weaknesses. And they help you discover and resolve your learning edges. They are trained to ask the questions which uncover your own brilliance and the momentum that is already within you, but not yet engaging to the level that it might.  This way of working follows Jung's insight that good advice never hurt anyone, because nobody listens to it!

What is a coach's responsibility in the client-coach partnership?
A coach should:
·         Discover, clarify, and align with what the client wants to achieve;
·         Encourage client self-discovery;
·         Elicit client-generated solutions and strategies; and
·         Hold the client responsible and accountable.

Professional coaches provide an ongoing partnership designed to help clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Ultimately, coaches help people improve their performances and enhance the quality of their lives.

Coaches are trained to listen, to observe and to customize their approach to individual client needs. They seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client; they believe the client is naturally creative and resourceful. The coach's job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources, and creativity that the client already has.
